The Toucans room consists of children 2 years of age.
In our classroom we teach our children through play, song and dance. Our children exercise fine and gross motor skills through various activities such as painting/coloring and playground time.
The teachers at Toddler Town in Chicago also work on critical thinking through puzzles and various Manipulatives.
Math and science are incorporated as the children learn about different math skills and nature. The children also exercise their imagination through dramatic play and story time.
We work around a schedule which is beneficial to the children as it allows them to learn about time and routine. We also prepare a lesson plan as we follow a curriculum at the center.
When we prepare lessons we focus on monthly/weekly themes and take into consideration the children’s interests to make the learning process fun.
Materials taught consist of the alphabet, numbers, calendar, nature, shapes, and colors.
We also encourage parent participation through monthly take home projects, homework, and class participation.
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”
- Fred Rogers
